The Hairless is prized for its unusual appearance. The Hairless has soft, humanlike skin, as well as tufts of fur
on its paws ("socks") and tail ("plume") and long, flowing hair on its head ("crest"). The Hairless variety can vary in amount
of body hair. Some have hair that has to be groomed to make the hairless appearance. Fur on the muzzle, known as a beard,
is not uncommon. A true Hairless often does not have as much furnishings (hair on the head, tail, and paws); however, many
of the dogs seen in the show ring are actually a "moderate" or "hairy" hairless that is shaved down. The very hairy hairless
has a single coat, often with hairless parts on the body. The skin of the Hairless comes in a variety of colors, ranging from
a pale flesh to black, and is often mottled. The Hairless Crested often lacks a full set of teeth, and this is often used
to verify to some extent that the dog is a true Hairless and not a shaved Powder Puff. However no hair or some hair, the hairless
pup is totally hairless at birth and carries the hairless gene as well as the puff gene and bred with a Hairless or a Puff
can produce either a Hairless or a Powder Puff puppy.
As you can see with the pictures we have added, the Chinese Crested Hairless Dog come in a variable degree
of body hair. The more body hair on a hairless is an eye stopper as an adult, giving the Crested thicker and longer furnishing.
In some cases an Ideal Hairless will give you the nicer furnishings as well. These two degrees of body hair on a crested will
have to be groomed. As for the True Hairless, in most cases only the face will need to be shaved and in some cases they will
get a small amount of hair on the body but not always.
